Update: <\/strong>Even in the overnight metered market ratings, Wednesday’s 48th Annual Country Music Association Awards broadcast narrowly trailed last year’s ceremony in adults 18-49 and total viewers.<\/em><\/p>\n

After posting a 4.7 A18-49 rating with 16.76 million viewers last year, this year’s edition scored a 4.5 rating with 16.14 million.<\/em><\/p>\n

As previously noted, the show peaked during the 9-9:30PM half hour, which featured performances by Jason Aldean, Little Big Town, Ariana Grande, Tim McGraw and the announcement of the Vocal Duo of the Year winner.\u00a0 The show drew a 4.9 with 17.20 million during that portion.<\/em><\/p>\n

A complete assessment will not be possible until adults 18-49 and total viewership numbers are released later this morning, but based on the overnight metered market numbers, this year’s CMA Awards broadcast demonstrated remarkable year-over-year consistency.<\/p>\n

Wednesday’s ceremony, which again aired on ABC, drew the same 9.7 overnight household rating as last year’s telecast. The 2013 show bested the 2012 version by 11%, but the validity of the comparison was compromised by the fact that the 2012 CMA Awards ceremony aired on a Thursday night.<\/p>\n

This year’s edition drew its peak household audience during the 9-9:30PM half hour. That portion featured Jason Aldean’s “Burnin’ it Down,” Little Big Town and Ariana Grande’s collaboration, Tim McGraw’s “Shotgun Rider” and the unveiling of the Vocal Duo of the Year winner (Florida Georgia Line).<\/p>\n

Adults 18-49 and total viewership data is due by 11:30AM ET.
