It also, unfortunately, revealed that the show is not as universally-appealing as it once was.<\/p>\n<p>The episode averaged a mere 28.8 million viewers for the two-hour grand finale, which makes it one of the least-watched &#8220;Idol&#8221; finales in history.  Last year&#8217;s show averaged over 31 million viewers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/view.picapp.com\/default.aspx?term=\\kris allen&#038;iid=4831525\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/cdn.picapp.com\/ftp\/Images\/2\/8\/a\/8\/American_Idol_Season_b6a2.jpg?adImageId=1173120&#038;imageId=4831525\" width=\"420\" height=\"630\"  border=\"0\" alt=\"American Idol Season 8 Finale - Press Room\"\/><\/a><script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/cdn.pis.picapp.com\/IamProd\/PicAppPIS\/JavaScript\/PisV4.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The show&#8217;s final half-hour, in which Kris Allen was crowned &#8220;Idol&#8221; champion over judges&#8217; favorite Adam Lambert, garnered the attention of 34 million.<\/p>\n<p>On the adults 18-49 front, the finale was the worst-rated in the history of the series, including the first season, which premiered as a summer series.
