Miley Cyrus’ controversial, buzzworthy and memorable “Wrecking Ball” predictably won video of the year at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards.<\/p>\n

The acceptance speech was anything but predictable. Instead of taking the stage herself, an emotional Cyrus allowed Jesse, who identified himself as one of the US’ “1.6 million runaways and homeless youth,” to accept the prize.<\/p>\n

With awards presenter Jimmy Fallon closely gripping the nervous speaker’s microphone, Jesse explained the plight of homeless youth and asked viewers to take action.<\/p>\n

He also directed viewers to Miley Cyrus’ Facebook page, where the singer asks fans to donate to the cause.<\/p>\n

“Help me raise awareness and funds to end youth homelessness! This is just the beginning for me, but we\u2019re going to get started now by focusing on My Friend\u2019s Place, a homeless center for young people in Hollywood,” reads the post on Cyrus’ page.<\/p>\n

Those who donate $5 via her Prizeo link will “be entered to win a trip for 2 to Brazil to hang out with me at my show in Rio de Janeiro on Sept 28th. You’ll get the full VIP experience, including 2 of the best seats in the house.”<\/p>\n
