With songs at #1 (her “Bang Bang” collaboration with Jessie J and Nicki Minaj), #10 (her “Problem” with Iggy Azalea) and #11 (her “Break Free” effort with Zedd), Ariana Grande is in a state of dominance on the iTunes single sales chart.<\/p>\n
But despite Grande’s justifiable consumption of the spotlight, several other acts are managing to make waves.<\/p>\n
Maroon 5 might not have three songs in the Top 11, but it does have two songs in the top five (at least for now).<\/p>\n
Fueled by a high level of fan interest and a valuable boost from album pre-orders, instant gratification track “It Was Always You” and lead single “Maps” command very impressive positions on the chart.<\/p>\n
As of press time, the songs were iTunes’ third- and fourth-best-sellers, respectively. Only the aforementioned “Bang Bang” and Meghan Trainor’s #2 “All About That Bass” are selling at a faster rate.<\/p>\n
The two tracks appear on the band’s new album “V,” which has earned enough pre-order interest to shoot to #1 on the iTunes Albums chart. It officially releases on September 2.<\/p>\n
Breakthrough country duo Maddie & Tae is also enjoying an admirable ascent up the iTunes sales chart.<\/p>\n
As of press time, the act’s debut single “Girl in a Country Song” was up to #39. If the song can maintain its growing sales pace–and the vast level of interest in its official video (which is at 2.7 million views and counting)–“Girl in a Country Song” should be able to make a Hot 100 splash in the near future.<\/p>\n
While the explosion of press surrounding the song, which tackles the portrayal of women in “bro country” songs, will soon ease, rising support from country radio will keep it in the conversation (and likely in the mix on iTunes). It is currently #45–and rising–on Mediabase’s country airplay chart.<\/p>\n
Other notables on the iTunes chart:<\/p>\n
— Briefly knocked into the teens, Sia’s “Chandelier” and Charli XCX’s “Boom Clap” have bounced back into the Top 10. They are currently #8 and #9 on the single sales chart, respectively.<\/p>\n
— Echosmith’s “Cool Kids” continues its steady rise up the chart. It is currently #24.<\/p>\n
— Drake’s “0 to 100\/The Catch Up,” which debuted in the Hot 100 this week, continues to maintain a solid position on the sales chart. It is #26.<\/p>\n
— Vance Joy’s alternative blockbuster “Riptide,” which should hit mainstream radio formats soon, is up to #56.
