“Girl Meets World” might have commanded more media attention, but it was movie “Zapped” that attracted the bigger audience for Disney Channel Friday.<\/p>\n
Both broadcasts, however, were successful with youth demographics.<\/p>\n
“Zapped,” which starred Zendaya and Spencer Boldman, attracted 5.7 million viewers for its premiere telecast Friday. Predictably young-skewing, it was the year’s top cable telecast in kids 2-11 (2.9 million, 7.3 rating), kids 6-11 (2.3 million, 9.6 rating) and tweens 9-14 (2.1 million, 8.7 rating).<\/p>\n
It drew 1.3 million viewers (1.0 rating) in the adults 18-49.<\/p>\n
While Disney celebrated the film’s strong performance, it is worth noting that its viewership considerably trailed that of “Teen Beach Movie,” which drew 8.4 million viewers.<\/p>\n
“Girl Meets World,” a continuation of the beloved “Boy Meets World” franchise, attracted 5.2 million viewers for its inaugural airing. It was the year’s best series launch in kids 2-11 (2.3 million, 5.7 rating), kids 6-11 (1.8 million, 7.7 rating) and tweens 9-14 (1.7 million, 6.9 rating).<\/p>\n
Lower in total viewership and youth demographics, “Girl” actually outdrew “Zapped” in adults 18-49. It garnered 1.6 million viewers (~1.3 rating) in that demo.<\/p>\n
