The network confirmed Thursday that “The Flash,” which was launched out of sophomore drama “Arrow,” has received a series order. Starring Grant Gustin, Jesse L. Martin and Tom Cavanaugh, the project was considered a virtual lock ahead of The CW’s official announcement Thursday.<\/p>\n
Content to let “The Flash” serve as its sole new spin-off next season, The CW passed on “Supernatural” off-shoot “Bloodlines.” While the series’ pilot delivered solid ratings last week, it was unable to win The CW’s commitment for a full season.<\/p>\n
Beyond “The Flash,” series that did win such a commitment were “Zombie,” “Jane the Virgin” and “The Messengers.” Descriptions of the four new series follow:<\/p>\n

ZOMBIE: A med student-turned-zombie takes a job in the coroner\u2019s office to gain access to the brains she must reluctantly eat to maintain her humanity, but with each brain she consumes, she inherits the corpse\u2019s memories. With the help of her medical examiner boss and a police detective, she solves homicide cases in order to quiet the disturbing voices in her head. Based on the characters created by Chris Roberson and Michael Allred, and published by DC Comics\u2019 Vertigo imprint. Cast: Rose McIver (Liv).<\/p>\n
JANE THE VIRGIN: Adapted from the successful Venezuelan telenovela. A series of surprising and unforeseen events causes a hard-working, religious young Latina woman to be accidentally artificially inseminated. Gina Rodriguez (Jane); Justin Baldoni (Rafael).<\/p>\n
THE MESSENGERS: When a mysterious object crashes down to earth, a group of seemingly unconnected strangers die from the energy pulse, but then awaken to learn that they have been deemed responsible for preventing the impending Apocalypse.
