Thanks to two dissenting votes, “American Idol” was unable to enact a “twist” that would have deferred this week’s elimination to next week.<\/p>\n
Those two dissenting votes came from contestants Jena Irene and Alex Preston.<\/p>\n
Chris Trondsen, who interviewed the remaining “Idol” contestants following Thursday’s results show, revealed the news on Twitter.<\/p>\n
“American Idol fans: Caleb, Sam & Jess voted YES, keep everyone together (2 home next week). Jena & Alex voted NO, send someone home tonight,” wrote Trondsen.<\/p>\n
Promoted by host Ryan Seacrest as a “shocking twist,” Thursday’s “Idol” saw producers put the elimination format in the hands of the contestants. If they unanimously agreed to defer this week’s elimination–before learning who that eliminated contestant was–there would be a double elimination next week.<\/p>\n
The “no” votes from Jena and Alex kept the show to its planned elimination format.
