Speaking frankly about the fate of Helena, “Orphan Black” director and co-creator John Fawcett tells EW, “We lied. It was bald face lying. We just did it as best we could with every single interviewer that would talk to us.”<\/p>\n
The lie to which Fawcett is referring was the suggestion that Helena, one of the clones played by the show’s Golden Globe-nominated star Tatiana Maslany, was truly killed by Sarah late in the show’s first season.<\/p>\n
Despite her apparent death–and the noted comments by Fawcett and co-creator Graeme Manson–Helena indeed appeared in the final moments of Saturday’s season two premiere. Still showing the impact of Sarah’s shooting, she might not have been well, but she was alive.<\/p>\n
And by arriving at a hospital, Helena gave viewers little reason to doubt that she recovers.<\/p>\n
Admitting his initial dishonesty, Fawcett explains that he and Manson never considered sticking to the story that Helena was dead. They “always knew” she would survive into the second season.<\/p>\n
“We always knew [she was alive], says Fawcett. “It was never, ever a discussion of whether we kill her or not, she was very much going to be alive and we kind of had an evil plan for why she was alive, which will be revealed soon. I\u2019m hoping the audience is going to be really excited that she\u2019s back and then the question is, how did she survive?”<\/p>\n
