“American Idol” was once so dominant that it could help a thoroughly incompatible lead-out series premiere to strong ratings.<\/p>\n
Times have changed.<\/p>\n
With ratings for “American Idol” now firmly in an unremarkable ballpark, FOX’s new comedy “Surviving Jack” did not receive the plum lead-in it might have once anticipated.<\/p>\n
Combined with its limited appeal as a self-starter, “Jack” opened to very soft ratings Thursday night.<\/p>\n
Airing out of an “American Idol” that drew an unimpressive 1.9 adults 18-49 rating with 7.98 million viewers, “Jack” settled for a 1.3 with 5.15 million.<\/p>\n
Insofar as FOX’s ratings have tanked across the board, expectations for series premiere ratings have presumably been relaxed.
