Update:<\/b> Poorly reviewed new comedy “Mixology” opened to a weak 1.8 adults 18-49 rating with 5.22 million viewers. Lead-in “Modern Family,” though not the juggernaut it once was, still led its timeslot with a 3.1 rating and 8.57 million viewers.<\/p>\n

Earlier in the night, ABC aired “The Middle” (1.8, 7.11 million viewers) and “Suburgatory” (1.5, 5.30 million viewers). Both performances were flat.<\/p>\n

ABC closed its evening with “Nashville” (1.2, 4.72 million viewers) at 10PM.

\nABC’s “Mixology” did not cause a stir with television viewers.<\/p>\n

The new comedy, which premiered out of Wednesday’s “Modern Family,” posted a disappointing 3.6 overnight metered market rating. While there is always a chance the episode’s adults 18-49 number, which will be released by noon, was not terrible, the low overnight rating provides no reason to believe it was solid.<\/p>\n

By comparison, “Super Fun Night,” which quickly faded into a super flop, opened to a considerably stronger 5.5 rating this fall.<\/p>\n

While “Fun” did receive stronger lead-in support from “Modern Family” (an 8.0 rather than a 6.5, according to TV Media Insights), it also retained a larger portion of that audience. “Super Fun Night” retained 69% of its lead-in audience; “Mixology” only hooked 55%.<\/p>\n
