Its reign over the Billboard Hot 100 chart might be over, but Lorde’s “Royals” has definitely not ceded its entire empire.<\/p>\n
The multi-format hit, which topped the Hot 100 for nine weeks and the Alternative Songs chart for seven, extended its stay atop the Billboard Hot Rock songs list to a seventeenth frame.<\/p>\n
With seventeen consecutive weeks of leadership, “Royals,” which took the Rock Songs throne from Imagine Dragons’ “Radioactive” this September, now claims the third longest reign in the chart’s four year history. Only the aforementioned “Radioactive” (23 weeks) and The Foo Fighters’ “Rope” (20 weeks) held the throne for more consecutive weeks.<\/p>\n
The Lumineers’ “Ho Hey” spent eighteen weeks at number one, but it did so in separate waves of two weeks and sixteen weeks. “Ho Hey,” “Radioactive” and “Royals” were the only songs to hit number one on Hot Rock Songs in 2013.<\/p>\n
“Royals” clearly remains a hot commodity in the music world (in addition to ruling Rock, it is still impressively seated at number five on the Hot 100), but follow-up single “Team” is starting to make an impression of its own.<\/p>\n
And as with “Royals,” it is showing multi-format appeal.<\/p>\n
