While the numbers are down slightly from the show’s previous airing, the decline is not troubling in context. In addition to going head-to-head with the 9PM portion of NBC’s monster “The Sound of Music Live” (which drew a 4.8 adults 18-49 rating with 19.28 million viewers in the hour), “Reign” also received weakened lead-in support from “The Vampire Diaries.”<\/p>\n

In Thursday’s “Reign,” entitled “Left Behind,” Catherine, Mary and Francis aligned to successfully defend the castle against invaders.<\/p>\n

In the Thursday ratings race, The CW’s “Reign” successfully held its ground against the threat of NBC’s “The Sound of Music Live!” and matched the prior week’s 1.3 overnight metered market rating.<\/p>\n

All other 9PM series–FOX’s “Glee,” CBS’ “The Crazy Ones” and “Two and a Half Men” and ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy”–suffered notable declines against the musical.<\/p>\n

Given the towering competition and the potential disparity between overnight performance and final national performance, it is possible–perhaps even probable–that “Reign” slipped slightly in the adults 18-49 demographic.<\/p>\n

The steady overnights should, however, deter any immediate feelings of panic or pessmism. “Reign,” at least for the time being, appears to have attracted itself a loyal following.<\/p>\n
