Update:<\/b> The early verdict on The CW’s decision to order a full season of “Reign” is a positive one.<\/p>\n

For the first time in four weeks, “Reign” improved its performance in the adults 18-49 category. Up from the 0.6 it delivered in those four consecutive episodes, Thursday’s 0.7 rating ranks as the series’ best since its premiere.<\/p>\n

“A Chill in the Air,” Thursday’s episode, averaged 1.73 million viewers.<\/p>\n

Earlier in the night, 8PM staple “The Vampire Diaries” delivered a 1.3 rating with 2.68 million viewers. Though its numbers were in usual territory, poor performances from programming on ABC, NBC and FOX helped “TVD” rank second in the 8-8:30PM half hour (only behind CBS’ “The Big Bang Theory”) and third in the 8:30-9PM half hour (behind CBS’ “The Millers” and the second half of FOX’s “The X Factor”).<\/em>

At least as far as overnight ratings for The CW’s “Reign” are concerned.<\/p>\n

“A Chill in the Air,” Thursday’s episode, matched last week’s 1.4 overnight metered market rating. Whether the same will be said of its total viewership and performance in adults 18-49 remains to be seen, but it seems clear Thursday’s episode did not experience notable gains or losses in those categories.<\/p>\n

Promoted around a love square between Mary (Adelaide Kane), Francis (Toby Regbo), Bash (Torrance Coombs) and Olivia (Yael Grobglas), which ultimately led to the first kiss between “Mash” (Mary and Bash), Thursday’s “Chill” received strong critical and fan marks.<\/p>\n

After premiering to a 1.5 overnight rating, “Reign” has delivered a 1.4, a 1.3, a 1.4 and 1.4 for its subsequent four respective episodes. That inaugural episode posted a 0.8 adults 18-49 episode; since then, each has managed the same 0.6. This week’s number in that column will be revealed by noon.<\/p>\n
