Offering little in the way of surprise, Miley Cyrus’ “Bangerz” will debut with a dominant number one position on the Billboard 200 Album Sales Chart.<\/p>\n
And its total will also surprise no one.<\/p>\n
According to Billboard, the Cyrus album moved roughly 270K copies in its opening week. Consistent with the 250-275,000 early tracking, the figure greatly exceeds that for Cyrus’ predecessor “Can’t Be Tamed” and echoes that delivered by recent releases from P!nk, Britney Spears and Rihanna.<\/p>\n
It also gives Cyrus’ album a significant lead over the chart’s number two album. Panic! at the Disco’s “Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die,” that album, moved roughly 84K copies.<\/p>\n
Drake’s “Nothing Was the Same” claimed third with 83K, while Pusha T’s acclaimed “My Name is My Name” was good for a fourth place bow with 75K confirmed units. Justin Timberlake’s “The 20\/20 Experience Part 2” fell hard in week two; it could only manage 70K additional units for a fifth place finish.<\/p>\n
Lorde’s “Pure Heroine” dropped to approximately 63K in its second week, and it claimed sixth place ahead of “Glee”‘s “The Quarterback EP.” That album, the soundtrack to the show’s Cory Monteith tribute with proceeds benefiting Project Limelight, should not sweat its positioning, however. With an estimated sales total of 47K units, “Quarterback”‘s performance greatly exceeds initial forecasts–and sales for the recent “Glee Sings the Beatles” effort.<\/p>\n
