Those questioning Miley Cyrus’ decision to go for gratuitous broke in her new “Wrecking Ball” video might want to look at the digital sales charts.<\/p>\n

According to Digital Sales Data, Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball,” which had dropped to the bottom of the top ten prior to Monday’s release of the racy video, has emerged as the top-selling single of the past twenty four hours.<\/p>\n

In advancing to the digital sales pinnacle, “Wrecking Ball” dethrones Katy Perry’s monster “Roar,” which has owned the number one position since its release several weeks ago (save for a brief moment in which a problematic iTunes practice enabled the Cyrus single to taste the top spot<\/a>).<\/p>\n

At press time, “Wrecking Ball”‘s 24-hour sales total led that of “Roar” by about 2.5%.<\/p>\n

It is unlikely “Wrecking Ball” will sustain its lead over the long-term, but insofar as it had fallen below songs like Lorde’s “Royals” and Avicii’s “Wake Me Up,” let alone Perry’s “Roar,” prior to the video release, it is clear the video helped thrust the song back into first position.<\/p>\n

That video, which features a scantily-clad Miley Cyrus riding around on a wrecking ball and playing provocatively with a sledgehammer<\/a>, has garnered immensely polarizing reactions and set Vevo records since its Monday release.<\/p>\n

It also overshadowed Eminem’s “Berzerk” video, which has amassed significantly fewer views and seen a far less notable spike in digital sales since its debut.<\/p>\n

— In an effort to solicit views for the edgy new video, Cyrus promised to release the tracklist for upcoming album “Bangerz” if the video set the 24-hour view record on Vevo. It did, and Cyrus made good on her promise:<\/p>\n
