In a new interview with MTV, the pop singer uses the concept of sincerity to defend her controversial Video Music Awards performance.<\/p>\n
“What’s amazing is I think now, we’re three days later (at the time of the interview) and people are still talking about it. They’re over thinking it,” says Cyrus. “You’re thinking about it more than I thought about it when I did it. Like, I didn’t even think about it ’cause that’s just me.”<\/p>\n
Noting its similarities to previous, history-making performances from Britney Spears and Madonna, Cyrus sees no reason to focus on the condemnation.<\/p>\n
“How many times have we seen this play out in pop music?” asks Cyrus. “Madonna’s done it. Britney’s done it. Every VMA performance, that’s what you’re looking for…you’re wanting to make history.”<\/p>\n
The sexually-charged performance, which included a solo take on her “We Can’t Stop” and a duet with Robin Thicke on “Blurred Lines,” drew scathing reviews from viewers, critics and advocacy groups.<\/p>\n
