Though the ultimate goal of the confirmed appearance was to promote her role in “The Smurfs 2,” fans held out hope that Katy Perry would reveal details about her new album on Friday’s “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.”<\/p>\n
One would be hard-pressed to say those looking for something definitive received their wish, but Perry did touch on the upcoming follow-up to smash hit “Teenage Dream.”<\/p>\n
“I’m still working on it,” explained Perry about the status of her new album. “I guess I would just say that it’s…soon.”<\/p>\n
Far from ready to reveal anything conclusive, Perry nonetheless explained the core thought process behind the record.<\/p>\n
“I’ve had a lot of time to reflect…and I think that it will continually be what I always do – connecting to my core and trying to bring an honest message that people can relate to,” teased Perry.<\/p>\n
Given that commitment to a down-to-earth, straightforward approach, Perry also revealed the type of music listeners should not expect on the new album.<\/p>\n
“I think the songs that try hard on the radio or are pushing these message of ‘how cool I am all the time’…it’s, okay, we get you, you’re cool,” noted Perry, distancing herself from such artists and records.<\/p>\n
