With seven nominees in the lead actress category, this year’s Emmys had plenty of room to include all of television’s most acclaimed leading ladies in this mix this year.<\/p>\n
Somehow, the Awards still managed to fail television audiences.<\/p>\n
Tatiana Maslany (“Orphan Black”) and Keri Russell (“The Americans”), two names that had immense fan and critical support and seemed to top nearly every wish list, will both be relegated to a passive role at the September Emmy Awards ceremony.\u00a0 Neither received a nomination.<\/p>\n
While Maslany’s absence was reasonably expected given her show’s low-profile home on BBC America, Russell appeared to be an absolute shoo-in.\u00a0 As a TV veteran who proved her versatility on a critically-acclaimed series, she seemed tailor-made for consideration in this year’s awards proceedings.<\/p>\n
Instead, she joins Katey Sagal, whose work on fellow FX drama “Sons of Anarchy” has consistently gone without recognition from the premiere TV awards body.<\/p>\n
