UFC President Dana White is sticking to his word–and common sense–that Anderson Silva’s UFC 162 loss puts the kibosh on two proposed superfights.<\/p>\n
For many years considered the best mixed martial artist of all-time, Silva has perpetually been the centerpiece of two “superfight” rumors; one with UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre and the other with Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones.<\/p>\n
But a key element of the superfight scenario would have been the notion that the two, title-holding competitors effectively “cleaned out” their respective divisions, and insofar as Silva could not defeat challenger Chris Weidman at UFC 162, one simply cannot make that claim for Silva.<\/p>\n
The fact that Weidman won via a brutal, second-round, “knockout of the night” only further chips at the idea of booking Silva in such a superfight.<\/p>\n
“[Weidman’s win] cost Georges St. Pierre, Jon Jones…and Anderson Silva a lot of money,” said White of the fact that Silva’s loss Saturday nixes talk of booking a superfight against either GSP or Jones.<\/p>\n
