Update<\/strong>: “American Idol” posted a 3.6 adults 18-49 rating with 14.3 million viewers in the final ratings, which included the seven-minute overrun. \u00a0In addition to remaining well below the number delivered by last year’s finale, the “Idol” number also considerably trailed “The Big Bang Theory”‘s 4.8 rating and 15.5 million viewer average.<\/em><\/p>\n

Even after a season of disappointing ratings, last year’s “American Idol” finale, in which Phillip Phillips defeated Jessica Sanchez to become the show’s eleventh winner, delivered a strong ratings performance.<\/p>\n

This year’s finale performance was considerably less impressive.<\/p>\n

Based on the fast national data, Thursday’s two-hour conclusion to “American Idol” 12 was good for a 3.5 adults 18-49 rating with 13.61 million viewers.<\/p>\n

Because “Idol” ran for seven minutes past the 10PM mark, and that final segment was surely the night’s highest-rated portion, an upward adjustment in the final broadcast data is certain.\u00a0 But there is still no chance “Idol” adjusts to beat the 4.5 adults 18-49 rating posted by “The Big Bang Theory” or the 6.4 adults 18-49 rating for last year’s finale.<\/p>\n

The rating was, however, up considerably from recent Thursday results show performances.<\/p>\n
