At least one missing piece of the puzzle fell into place Monday, as FOX confirmed to attendees at its Television Critics Association press tour session that Mariah Carey will join as a judge for season twelve.<\/p>\n
Carey, who had previously been a target for FOX’s other music competition series “The X Factor,” will effectively replace Jennifer Lopez, who earlier this month announced her intention to leave the show.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs a singer, songwriter and producer, it\u2019s going to be fun and rewarding to help find new talent and give back with AMERICAN IDOL,\u201d said Mariah Carey. \u201cI\u2019m currently in the studio working on my new album and its first single, \u2018Triumphant,\u2019 which will be out early next month. I can\u2019t wait to channel my creative energy as a part of this show which is a massive global phenomenon.\u201d<\/p>\n
Steven Tyler, who joined the show alongside Lopez when “Idol” parted ways with Simon Cowell, Kara DioGuardi and Ellen DeGeneres, also announced his departure after two seasons.<\/p>\n
From all accounts, Randy Jackson, the only remaining member of the original judging panel, will remain on board alongside Carey.<\/p>\n
Specifics on Mariah Carey’s “Idol” deal are unknown, but EW sources say her salary will be in the $12-17 million range.
