After crushing forecasts with an impressive $25 million on Friday, Pixar’s “Brave” continued its dominance for an easy weekend box office victory.<\/p>\n
Though its momentum slightly slowed as the weekend continued, “Brave” still earned a healthy $66.7 million, slightly topping projections and leading its nearest competitor by a factor of more than three.<\/p>\n
“Madagascar 3,” that competitor, added $20.2 million to its take as it crossed the $150 million milestone for its domestic haul.<\/p>\n
While “Brave” was a clear success, the weekend’s other newcomers have less to celebrate. “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” underwhelmed with third place and $16.5 million, a total that was on pace with late forecasts but significantly below a success threshold for a film of the sort.<\/p>\n
“Seeking a Friend for the End of the World,” meanwhile, drastically underperformed with $3.8 million. Adult-skewing, off-beat Steve Carell fare was never going to be a box office smash, but at $3.8 million, it delivered only about 50-60% of what analysts were expecting.<\/p>\n
