As its official upfront presentation approaches, CBS is negotiating deals to keep some popular “bubble” series on the air.<\/p>\n
While CBS’ typically older-skewing programming often removes it from the passionate, “save our show” campaigns for cult-favorite series–“Jericho” is a recent and notable exception–many of its “endangered” programs do have rather large audiences who would be upset with cancellation.<\/p>\n
Among those looking good for renewal, says THR, are “Rules of Engagement” and “Cold Case.” \u00a0“Engagement” generates little buzz, and it did not impress in a recent Wednesday airing, but it does hold onto a very solid portion of the “Two and a Half Men” audience in its usual Monday slot. \u00a0As with this year’s third season renewal, a fourth season order for “Rules” would likely be a thirteen episode buy.<\/p>\n
“Cold Case” has been battling with fellow drama veteran “Without a Trace” for a return spot on CBS’ schedule. \u00a0Both have shown some recent ratings strength, and while neither has been counted out, “Cold Case” is being viewed as the frontrunner. \u00a0“Without a Trace” might still be in the running for a midseason slot.<\/p>\n
At press time, industry sources were beginning to officially rule out renewal prospects for “The Unit.”<\/p>\n
