The adults 18-49 numbers are required before making any serious conclusions about the success of young-skewing FOX’s premieres Tuesday, but the early overnight numbers are very kind to new series “New Girl.”<\/p>\n

According to TV Media Insights, “New Girl” scored a 7.4 metered market rating, an estimate of its total household rating (rather than demo performance). Given FOX’s skew and the feel of the show, that should forecast a very solid showing in adults 18-49.
\n(Update:<\/b> “New Girl” indeed delivered, posting a massive 4.7 rating in the demo)<\/p>\n

Most notable about the performance? It actually built on the premiere of “Glee,” which delivered a 6.6 rating. Going into Tuesday’s premiere, most were looking to see whether “New Girl” could retain a sufficient portion of the “Glee” audience. Who figured it would have actually built on the FOX tentpole’s audience?<\/p>\n

At that 6.6 level, “Glee” was down fairly sharply from last year’s monster season premiere, although it does suggest the final numbers will come notably below what “Glee” pumped out for most of its critically-panned second season.
\n(Update:<\/b> At a 3.8, “Glee” was way down from last year’s premiere but up from the average for the latter portion of season two)<\/p>\n

Following “New Girl,” “Raising Hope” garnered a 4.7. That falls right into the usual “Hope” range from season one, although the retention percentage out of a fellow half-hour comedy is not particularly-impressive.
