Earlier this year, Post Malone’s “Beerbongs & Bentleys” usurped the opening week US album streaming record from Drake’s “More Life.” It generated 431 million on-demand audio streams during its opening frame.<\/p>\n
This coming week, Drake is expected to take the record back. His new album drops this Friday, June 29.<\/p>\n
Given the extent to which streaming has grown since the release of “More Life” (and Drake’s track record of dominance on Apple Music and Spotify), many assumed that any<\/em> new Drake album would challenge for the all-time record.<\/p>\n “Scorpion,” the album he is releasing, seems to have particularly bright prospects of setting an all-time high. Per a Tweet from OVO, it is a double album consisting of 25 tracks.<\/p>\n While the marketplace has not yet determined a precise optimization point for album length (at a certain point, an abundance of tracks may dilute overall interest, and thus risk reducing streams), a twenty-five track spread should ultimately be advantageous for Drake. It gives the artist plenty of tracks on which to amass streams — without feeling too excessive<\/i> for music fans to absorb.<\/p>\n Barring a crippling exclusivity deal, “Scorpion” indeed appears poised to break the all-time record.
