Benefiting from a reduction in competition and perhaps the strong reception to the past few episodes, HBO’s “Westworld” enjoyed another week-over-week ratings increase.<\/p>\n
According to live+same-day data posted by Showbuzz, Sunday’s “Westworld” drew a 0.59 adults 18-49 rating and averaged 1.44 million overall viewers.<\/p>\n
While it drew fewer viewers than any of the episodes from the first half of this season (as well as every episode from season one), it outperformed last week’s broadcast (0.50, 1.39 million).<\/p>\n
Last week’s episode was itself up from the previous broadcast, which drew a 0.39 and 1.11 million viewers.<\/p>\n
It is, of course, worth noting that the previous episodes faced competition from high-profile NBA Playoffs games. This week’s episode did not face competition of that magnitude.<\/p>\n
With “Westworld” (and pretty much all HBO shows), it is important to note that the live+same-day ratings offer a very limited view of the story. The show draws far more viewers from on-demand, streaming and encore broadcasts than it does from the initial live TV airing.<\/p>\n
The show has already been renewed for season three.<\/p>\n
— “Westworld” led into episode two of “Succession,” which drew a 0.14 rating and 0.49 million viewers. The numbers trail the 0.15 rating and 0.58 million viewer mark posted by last week’s premiere.<\/p>\n
“Succession” does not look like a live+same-day hit, but it has already been renewed for next season.<\/p>\n
