Earlier this spring, ABC renewed its “Roseanne” revival for a second season.<\/p>\n
Tuesday, it abandoned that plan — and formally canceled the show.<\/p>\n
The cancellation comes on the heels of an inflammatory Tweet from star Roseanne Barr.<\/p>\n
“muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj,” wrote Barr. The “VJ” is a reference to Valerie Jarrett, who served as an advisor to former US President Barack Obama.<\/p>\n
The Tweet sparked outrage from across the Internet — and within the “Roseanne” team. Consulting producer Wanda Sykes, in fact, declared that she would not be returning to the show.<\/p>\n
Barr apologized, but the damage had already been done. ABC opted to cancel the show, with network Channing Dungey labeling the Tweet “abhorrent.”<\/p>\n
“Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show,” said Dungey in a statement.<\/p>\n
