While it has not been a ratings phenomenon, ABC’s “American Idol” has been a solid performer by conventional ratings standards.<\/p>\n
The competition itself, moreover, seems to be generating considerable buzz. The performances draw ample interest on social networks, and Sunday’s live episode was actually the best-rated installment since the season premiere.<\/p>\n
Given those factors, it should come as no surprise that ABC is moving forward with a new “American Idol” season.<\/p>\n
Set to air as part of the 2018-19 season (most likely in early 2019), the new cycle (second on ABC, seventeenth overall) will welcome Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie back to the judges’ table. Ryan Seacrest will continue as host.<\/p>\n
