The new “Tomb Raider” film predictably ranked as Friday’s top-grossing film in the United States.<\/p>\n
It is not, however, expected to win the weekend.<\/p>\n
That honor will likely go to “Black Panther.”<\/p>\n
“Tomb Raider” earned $9.1 million on Friday, which marked its first day of release. It is expected to close the weekend with $21-25 million in receipts.<\/p>\n
That opens the door for “Black Panther” to secure a fifth consecutive weekend at #1. While it took second place with $7.5 million Friday, it should close the weekend with $26-31 million. In doing so, it will win the weekend box office race — and cross the $600 million cumulative mark.<\/p>\n
New release “I Can Only Imagine” took third with $6.2 million Friday, while fellow newcomer “Love, Simon” grabbed fourth on the strength of its $4.6 million.<\/p>\n
“A Wrinkle In Time” was fifth at the Friday box office with $4.6 million, but it may move up to #3 for the full weekend.<\/p>\n
