Former US Olympic gymnast (and medalist) McKayla Maroney has maintained a fairly light social media presence in recent months.<\/p>\n
Thursday, however, she made waves by posting a short bikini video selfie on Twitter.<\/p>\n
Upon viewing the clip, many arrived at a simple conclusion: she looked absolutely fantastic.<\/p>\n
The video did not exclusively receive positive reactions, however. One of those less flattering statements received a response from Maroney herself.<\/p>\n
“Oh Mckayla, as a mom and former gymnast, I wish you would see that you are so much more than this,” wrote Twitter user @JJetson38 (Britney Scott).<\/p>\n
Maroney quickly responded.<\/p>\n
“hi \ud83d\ude42 just fyi i know very very well i’m more than a bathing suit pic,” wrote Maroney. “I was off social media for months & if i wasn’t in music i’d keep it that way.<\/p>\n
“I just live life a little differently than what most ppl agree with, and as a daughter i’d hope my mom would love me anyway.”<\/p>\n
Maroney’s response received support from fellow Twitter users, with one praising her “class” and another lauding her “killin em with kindness” approach.<\/p>\n
The original critic offered her own response, insisting she “never meant to disrespect” Maroney.<\/p>\n
“Cool, so as long as you are happy,” wrote @jjetson38. “Never meant to disrespect. Some of them are right- I don’t know you. I just always really loved your gymnastics and was concerned about all USA Gymnastics has put you through. Do you.”<\/p>\n
Maroney has since posted two new shots in the yellow bikini top.<\/p>\n
