Easily topping expectations, “Hop” dominated the weekend box office with an estimated $38.1 million in returns.<\/p>\n
The youth-skewing film’s ability to win the weekend was never in any doubt, but the magnitude of its debut was certainly welcomed by the film industry.<\/p>\n
Exceptionally-reviewed “Source Code,” which has a truly-impressive 89% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, followed with $15.1 million. While not a disaster and certainly on par with expectations, it does speak to star Jake Gyllenhaal’s limited drawing power. With such good reviews and limited on-brand competition, a mid-teens opening can, at best, be called “okay.”<\/p>\n
Horror film “Insidious,” also reasonably well-reviewed, opened to $13.5 million.<\/p>\n
