Last Sunday’s “American Idol” faced competition from the ACM Awards. It also went head-to-head with AMC’s “The Walking Dead” season finale in the 9PM hour.

This week’s episode did not face those forms of competition (though its 9PM hour did air opposite HBO’s “Westworld” season premiere). It, accordingly, enjoyed a week-over-week viewership gain.

According to fast national data posted by Showbuzz, Sunday’s “Idol” drew a 1.5 adults 18-49 rating and averaged 7.37 million overall viewers.

Last week’s episode posted a 1.3 in the demo and 6.35 million in viewership.

Sunday’s episode, which served as the Top 14 performance show, ranked as Sunday’s #1 network program in adults 18-49. It trailed “60 Minutes” and “NCIS: LA” as the #3 program in overall viewership.

— ABC’s Sunday also included “America’s Funniest Home Videos” at 7PM (1.0, 5.61 million this week vs. 1.2, 6.12 million last week) and “Deception” at 10PM (0.6, 3.38 million vs. 0.7, 3.61 million on April 8).
