The anticipation and buzz was greater than it has ever been.

Fittingly, the episode drew more viewers than the show ever has.

According to HBO, Sunday’s season seven “Game Of Thrones” premiere set a live+same-day record in overall viewership.

The first run of the episode drew a whopping 10.1 million viewers. The figure bests the previous season high (8.9 million, set by the sixth season finale) by more than 1 million.

Last season’s premiere, meanwhile, drew 7.94 million live+same-day viewers.

— With same-day replays and streaming data included, this year’s number swells to 16.1 million.
