The Chainsmokers’ “Memories…Do Not Open” endured a big second-week US sales drop, but the decline was not as severe as expected.
According to BuzzAngle Music and Hits Daily Double, the album sold approximately 26,041 pure US copies during its second week of release.
The figure pales in comparison to the 166,000 pure US copies sold in week one (~84%) but markedly tops mid-week projections.
As of Tuesday, Hits Daily Double was projecting a second-week sales figure in the 15-17,000 range. Such a tally would have represented a drop of about 90% — one of the biggest ever endured by a #1 album.
With TEA (track sales/10) and SEA (track streams/1500) included, “Memories” generated ~62,199 total consumption units in its second week. Though down by 72% from last week’s mark (221K), the figure comfortably tops the 50-55,000 projection that was issued at mid-week.
Per BuzzAngle, “Memories” was this week’s #5 album for both pure sales and overall consumption.
Due Sunday, Billboard’s more authoritative data may differ slightly. The discrepancy should not, however, meaningfully affect the album’s chart positions.
At worst, “Memories” may slip to #6 on the Billboard Top Album Sales (pure sales) chart. Its Top 5 position on the Billboard 200 (consumption) listing appears secure.
