“The Boss Baby” Wins 2nd Straight US Weekend Box Office; “Smurfs” Opens At #3

Based on studio estimates, “The Boss Baby” narrowly outperformed “Beauty And The Beast” at the US weekend box office.

It thus tops a second straight weekend box office chart.

“The Boss Baby” will earn an estimated $26.3 million this weekend. The gross, which brings the film’s cumulative total to $89.4 million, edges the $25.0 million earned by “Beauty And The Beast” (cume now $432.3 million).

“Beauty” holds at #2 on this week’s chart.

New release “Smurfs: The Lost Village” starts at #3 with a modest $14.0 million in first-weekend receipts. Fellow newcomer “Going In Style” directly follows at #4 thanks to its $12.5 million.

Down two spots, “Ghost In The Shell” takes #5 with $7.4 million (cume now $31.6 million).

— Newcomer “The Case For Christ,” which opened on 1,174 screens, takes #10 this week. It earned $3.9 million.
