Given the premiere’s strong live+same-day performance and stellar DVR gains, it should come as no surprise that NBC wants more “This Is Us.”
Tuesday afternoon — hours before the second episode airs — NBC announced that it ordered an additional five episodes of the critically acclaimed drama.
The order brings the first season total to 18. While the count is shy of the conventional 22, NBC is still referring to the move as a “full-season order.”
“It’s a rare moment in this business when a show so instantly delivers both critical acclaim and hit ratings, but ‘This Is Us’ is just such an extraordinary achievement,” said NBC’s Jennifer Salke. “Creator Dan Fogelman, along with co-directors Glenn Ficarra and John Requa and the gifted producers, cast and crew, has delivered the kind of heart and depth that resonates with every segment of the audience, and we’re proud to extend its presence on our schedule.”
Citing L+5 data, NBC says last Tuesday’s “This Is Us” premiere drew a 4.5 adults 18-49 rating and 14.3 million total viewers.
“This Is Us” also set records on NBC’s digital platform.
