Emmy & Tony Award Winner Andrea Martin Joins NBC’s “Hairspray Live!”

NBC’s “Hairspray Live!” has found its Prudy Pingleton.

The network announced Thursday that Emmy & Tony winner Andrea Martin will make a “special appearance” as Prudy in the upcoming live broadcast.

The over-protective, close-minded Prudy is Penny Pingleton’s (Ariana Grande) mother.

Martin won writing Emmys for “Second City Television.” Her Tony Awards came in recognition of her work in “My Favorite Year” and “Pippin.”

The December 7 “Hairspray Live!” is not Martin’s only upcoming NBC project. She is also set to co-star on the network’s midseason comedy “Great News.”

In addition to Martin and Grande, the “Hairspray Live!” cast features Harvey Fierstein, Jennifer Hudson, Kristin Chenoweth, Martin Short, Derek Hough, Dove Cameron, Garrett Clayton, exciting newcomer Maddie Baillio, and special guest stars Sean Hayes and Rosie O’Donnell.
