Kaleo’s modern rock breakthrough “Way Down We Go” predictably earns the top spot on this week’s Mediabase alternative airplay chart.

“Way Down We Go” received ~3,044 spins during the August 7-13 tracking period. Up 87 plays from last week’s count, the tally allows Kaleo’s single to rise from #2 to #1.

“Way Down We Go” seizes the throne from Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Dark Necessities,” which falls way down to #5 after two weeks on top. It garnered ~2,637 spins during the official tracking period (-338).

The two songs bookend a Top 5 that also includes Blink-182’s “Bored To Death” (#2, +1 | ~2,895 spins, -37), twenty one pilots’ “Heathens” (#3, +1 | ~2,805, +209) and Cage The Elephant’s “Trouble” (#4, +1 | ~2,753, +195).
