“Finding Dory” Easily Beats “Independence Day” At Weekend Box Office; “Shallows” Debuts At #4

“Independence Day: Resurgence” was no match for “Finding Dory,” which earned a second straight weekend box office victory in the US.

The “Finding Nemo” sequel will earn approximately $73.2 million in its second weekend. Down only 46% from last week’s haul, the tally positions “Finding Dory” at a comfortable #1 on the weekend box office chart.

“Resurgence” debuts at #2; it earned an underwhelming $41.6 million.

“Central Intelligence,” which debuted at #2 last week, is #3 this week. It earned $18.4 million in its second weekend, which marks a modest 48% decline from last week’s debut sum.

New release “The Shallows” debuts at #4 with $16.7 million. Fellow newcomer “Free State of Jones” starts at #5 with $7.8 million, narrowly besting “The Conjuring 2” (#6, $7.7 million).
