A sales monster has truly been awoken in Kelly Clarkson’s “Piece By Piece.”

Following a widely acclaimed live performance on Thursday’s “American Idol,” the original/album version of Clarkson’s single quickly shot to #1 on the US iTunes single sales chart. It remained there for the duration of the weekend.

As the world was still buzzing over Clarkson’s performance (and still buying the album version of her song), the original “American Idol” winner issued a new version. Fittingly entitled the “Idol version,” the new recording is a stripped, emotional ballad more sonically and spiritually consistent with what she performed last Thursday.

Predictably, fans rushed to buy the “Idol version.”

As of press time, the new version of “Piece By Piece” is #3 on the US iTunes sales chart. The album version is still impressively positioned at #5, while the “radio mix” is just outside the Top 300.

In short, people are buying “Piece By Piece” in droves.

They are also buying the entire album. The 2015 release, which bears the same name, is presently #9 on the US iTunes album chart.
