Syfy’s “The Expanse” Renewed For Second Season

“The Expanse,” which is only four episodes into its first season, has officially earned a second season renewal.

Syfy announced the order in a Thursday afternoon press release. Slated for a 2017 bow, the second season will feature thirteen episodes.

“THE EXPANSE is firing on all cylinders creatively, building a passionate fan base among viewers and critics alike, and delivering on Syfy’s promise of smart, provocative science fiction entertainment. We can’t wait to see where the story takes us in season two,” said Syfy’s Dave Howe.

“The Expanse” has not been a strong live+same-day (or live+3) ratings performer, but Syfy obviously sees value in the series.

Solid multi-platform interest is helping.

The pilot, for instance, garnered a total of 4.5 million streams and on-demand views in advance of the actual television broadcast.
