5 Seconds of Summer’s “Sounds Good Feels Good” is tracking dramatically short of initial industry expectations, but it is still pacing for an opening week sales victory.
According to Hits Daily Double, 5SOS’ new album is now projected to sell 175-185,000 pure US copies during the October 23-29 tracking week.
While that should give it the victory over Carrie Underwood’s “Storyteller” (~150-160,000) — and all other new and holdover releases — the tally is far shy of what the industry was anticipating as recently as last month.
Per a Hits Daily Double report, strong pre-order interest and buzz resulted in a forecast of 300,000. Even if the aforementioned projection proves slightly low, there is no way “Sounds Good Feels Good” will sell close to 300,000 US copies this week.
The “Sounds Good Feels Good” total will also fall dramatically short of the tally for previous album “5 Seconds of Summer.” The band’s self-titled debut LP sold 259,000 copies in its first week.
