Bring Me The Horizon Wins Sales Race With 55K; The Weeknd Stays Atop BB200 (Updated)

Update: An opening week US total of 55,000 pure copies powers Bring Me The Horizon’s “That’s The Spirit” to #1 on the Top Album Sales chart.

The album does not, however, top the consumption-oriented Billboard 200.

With Track Equivalent Albums (10 single sales = 1 album equivalent unit) and Streaming Equivalent Albums (1500 single streams = 1 album equivalent unit) added to its opening week sales figure, “That’s The Spirit” produced a first week consumption total of 62,000 units.

That earns Bring Me The Horizon’s album the #2 spot on this week’s Billboard 200. The Weeknd’s “Beauty Behind The Madness,” which shifted 99,000 total units (albeit fewer pure sales), claims #1 for a third straight week.

The Top 10 of this week’s Billboard 200 follows:

1) The Weeknd – Beauty Behind The Madness – 99K total units
2) Bring Me The Horizon – That’s The Spirit – 62K total units (55K from pure sales)
3) Brett Eldredge – Illinois – 51K total units (44K from pure sales)
4) Slayer – Repentless – 50K total units (49K from pure sales)
5) Taylor Swift – 1989 – 41K total units
6) Luke Bryan – Kill The Lights – 37K total units
7) Five Finger Death Punch – Got Your Six – 34K total units
8) Gary Clark, Jr. – The Story Of Sonny Boy Slim – 28K total units (27K from pure sales)
9) Ed Sheeran – x – 26K total units
10) Duran Duran – Paper Gods – 25K total units (24K from pure sales)
====================

A competitive US album sales race appears to have fallen in favor of Bring Me The Horizon’s new “That’s The Spirit.”

According to Hits Daily Double, “That’s The Spirit” sold approximately 53,994 pure US copies during the September 11-17 tracking week. That narrowly gives it the edge over Slayer’s “Repentless,” which posted a sales total in the 51,080 range.

Brett Eldredge’s “Illinois” (~48,717) and The Weeknd’s “Beauty Behind The Madness” (~46,332) also landed close to the top of the sales mountain.

Billboard’s more authoritative data, which will formally confirm the winner, is due Sunday. It will differ slightly from that reported by Hits, but it will most likely reveal the same outcome: “That’s The Spirit” and “Repentless” at the top of the Top Album Sales chart.

While it again falls short of #1 in the pure sales race, the aforementioned “Beauty Behind The Madness” should easily score a third week at #1 on the consumption-oriented Billboard 200. With Track Equivalent Albums (10 single sales = 1 album equivalent unit) and Streaming Equivalent Albums (1500 single streams = 1 album equivalent unit) added to its pure sales total, The Weeknd’s album shifted roughly 99,942 total units during its third week of release.

“That’s The Spirit” distantly follows with a unit total of around 58,994. “Repentless” (~53,080) and “Illinois” (~52,217) grab the next two slots.
