One Direction Debuts New Single “Drag Me Down;” Song Surges on Sales Chart

Over the past few weeks, label Columbia Records has been teasing a new single from One Direction.

That single, which is the first release in the post-Zayn Malik era, emerged early Friday morning.

Entitled “Drag Me Down,” the single represents the latest evolution in the boy band’s sound. Boasting a funky pop vibe, the track draws clear influence from bands like Maroon 5 and The Police.

Predictably, the song made immediate waves on the iTunes sales chart. By 2AM ET, it had dethroned The Weeknd’s “Can’t Feel My Face” to claim #1 at the US store.
