Alternative radio’s two fastest rising songs are now officially top ten hits.
twenty one pilots’ “Tear in My Heart” and X Ambassadors’ “Renegades,” those songs, reached #8 and #9, respectively, on the latest edition of Mediabase’s official alternative airplay chart.
Spun 1,590 times during the May 10-16 tracking week, “Tear in My Heart” rose three places to #8 on the chart. Its week-over-week spin gain of 169 was the alternative format’s second-fastest.
The week’s greatest gain belonged to “Renegades,” which climbed four places to a new peak of #9 on the chart. Boosted by the iHeartRadio “On the Verge” program and its inclusion in a national Jeep television campaign, “Renegades” received 1,571 spins during the aforementioned tracking week. That count bests the previous week’s spin total by a whopping 391.
Clearly the faster riser of the two, “Renegades” had already leapfrogged “Tear in My Heart” on Monday’s rolling edition of the chart. Both songs are nonetheless moving like hits.
