Maroon 5’s “This Summer’s Gonna Hurt” Debuts at #35 on Pop Airplay Chart

Available for only two of the tracking week’s seven days, Maroon 5’s new “This Summer’s Gonna Hurt” nonetheless received enough spins to reach the Top 40 of Mediabase’s weekly pop radio airplay chart.

Released at midnight on Friday, May 15, “This Summer’s Gonna Hurt” received 1,672 spins inside the May 10-16 tracking week. That earns it the #35 position on Mediabase’s chart.

Impressive, the spin was greatly bolstered by promotional support from iHeartMedia. Many of the radio powerhouse’s pop stations provided “This Summer’s Gonna Hurt” with hourly airplay on its first day of release.

But while that airplay might have thrust the song into the Top 40 particularly fast, “This Summer’s Gonna Hurt” doubtfully would have had trouble getting there through more organic means. Maroon 5, which sent previous single “Sugar” to #1, is one of pop radio’s most bankable acts.

OMI’s “Cheerleader” (#33, +8) and Adam Lambert’s “Ghost Town” (#40, +2) also reach pop’s Top 40 this week.

— Maroon 5’s “This Summer’s Gonna Hurt” also opens at #44 on the Hot AC airplay chart.
