Ratings: ABC’s “Scandal” Rises, Wins Timeslot as Papa Pope Returns (Updated)

Update: Returning after a one-week hiatus, ABC’s “Scandal” enjoyed episode-to-episode improvement in adults 18-49 and total viewership.

Thursday’s “Scandal” drew a 2.4 adults 18-49 rating with 7.86 million viewers.

Both numbers bested those of the previous episode, which delivered the weakest performance of the season.  Airing on April 2, it scored a 2.1 rating with 7.27 million viewers.

The demo rating, meanwhile, gave ABC a victory in the 9PM timeslot.

ABC also aired “Grey’s Anatomy” (2.1 rating, 7.68 million viewers) and “American Crime” (1.1, 4.38 million viewers).

Airing without competition from an original “The Blacklist” and on the strength of an aggressive “Papa Pope is Back” campaign, ABC’s “Scandal” rebounded in the ratings this week.

Per fast national data, this Thursday’s “Scandal” drew a 2.4 adults 18-49 rating with 7.86 million viewers.

The previous episode, which aired on April 2, drew a 2.1 rating with 7.27 million viewers. Both represented season lows.

This week’s adults 18-49 performance was network television’s best in the 9-10PM timeslot. CBS’ “Mom” (2.2, 9.66 million) and “The Big Bang Theory” (1.9, 8.58 million) reached a larger overall audience but attracted viewers in the coveted young adults demographic.

Thursday’s episode saw Rowan Pope (Joe Morton) begin his effort to combat the case against B-613.

— ABC’s Thursday lineup also featured “Grey’s Anatomy” and “American Crime.”

8PM drama “Grey’s” delivered a 2.1 adults 18-49 rating with 7.58 million viewers. Comparable to last week’s performance in the 9PM slot (2.1, 7.42 million viewers), this week’s “Grey’s” improved upon the 8PM April 2 broadcast. The episode drew a series low 1.9 adults 18-49 rating with a series low 6.64 million viewership mark.

10PM freshman “American Crime” posted a 1.1 adults 18-49 rating with 4.44 million viewers. Roughly even with last week’s viewership mark (4.40 million), this week’s episode bested that one in adults 18-49 (1.1 vs. 0.9).
