Mumford & Sons’ “Believe” is Now Alternative’s Most Played Song

After multiple weeks under the auspices of Modest Mouse’s “Lampshades on Fire,” alternative radio will this weekend crown a new number one song.

Mumford & Sons’ “Believe,” that song, is poised to top the official Mediabase alternative airplay chart after less than a full month of availability.

Based on airplay for the week between March 29 and April 4, that chart will be revealed this coming Sunday evening.

As it stands, “Believe” is already the most played song at the alternative radio format. Mediabase reports that it received 2,361 spins during the seven days between March 26 and April 1. The aforementioned “Lampshades” received 2,331 plays within that window.

“Believe,” which is the lead single from the band’s forthcoming “Wilder Mind,” is also the most played song at Triple A radio and the 24th-most played track at hot adult contemporary. It appears at #79 on this week’s all-encompassing Billboard Hot 100 chart.
