Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” Reaches #1 at Pop Radio

When it comes to the all-encompassing Hot 100, Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” has been unable to seize the throne from Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk (featuring Bruno Mars).” The infectious, throwback tune is currently enjoying a ninth week atop the chart.

When it comes to the pop radio airplay chart, Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” has officially gotten the job done.

“Thinking Out Loud” ascends to #1 on this week’s edition of the Mediabase pop radio airplay chart. The rise, which will be confirmed when Mediabase issues its final airplay chart Sunday evening, comes in conjunction with a return to #1 on hot adult contemporary and an ascent to #1 at adult contemporary.

The song commanded approximately 18,914 pop spins during the March 1-7 tracking week, which gives it a narrow edge over “Uptown Funk” (~18,759 spins). At Hot AC, “Thinking Out Loud” reclaims its crown on the strength of ~7,294 spins. “Uptown Funk” earned ~7,226 during the most recent tracking period. Its AC victory is attributable to ~2,650 weekly spins; Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space” holds #2 with ~2,613 spins.

Other top five pop songs include Taylor Swift’s “Style” (#3, ~17,782 weekly spins), which will hit #1 as early as next week, Pitbull’s “Time of Our Lives (featuring Ne-Yo)” (#4, ~15,521 weekly spins) and Maroon 5’s “Sugar” (#5, ~14,819 weekly spins).
