Kacey Musgraves’ New Single “Biscuits” Hits Country Radio on March 16 (Updated)

Update: While Kacey Musgraves’ new single “Biscuits” officially carries a March 16 impact date, some country radio stations will reportedly start playing the song as early as this week.

The march to Kacey Musgraves’ sophomore album is underway, and it begins with the March release of her new single “Biscuits.”

Showcased at concerts dating back to more than a year ago, the new single reunites the “Follow Your Arrow” songwriting team of Musgraves, Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally. It is slated to debut at radio on March 16 and on iTunes the following day.

“I’m very proud to be kickin’ things off with Biscuits! I think it’s the perfect preview to the record we had SO much fun making,” says Musgraves of the new track. “The sound of this song represents so many of the things I love about country music.

“And be warned — it may inspire a square dance.”

“Biscuits” begins a new album era for Musgraves, whose gold-certified debut “Same Trailer Different Park” won the Grammy and ACM awards for Album of the Year. It also spawned the Grammy-winning “Merry Go ‘Round” (Best Country Song) and CMA-winning “Follow Your Arrow” (Song of the Year).

A critical darling and proven seller (in addition to the gold-selling album, she also has a platinum single in “Merry Go ‘Round and a gold single in “Follow Your Arrow”), Musgraves’ one area of inconsistency has been radio performance. While country programmers embraced her debut “Merry Go ‘Round” (it peaked at #10 on the Billboard Country Airplay Chart), they showed considerably less interest in follow-up singles “Blowin’ Smoke” (#23), “Follow Your Arrow” (#43) and “Keep it To Yourself” (#32).

Radio’s aversion to “Follow Your Arrow,” which spent the past two years as one of the genre’s most buzzworthy songs and clearly resonated with country music buyers, spurred a particularly ample volume of conversation.

The radio issue will take center stage as Musgraves enters her next album cycle.
